| | Rare Birds in North of England
Two rare birds - "bitterns" - have been spotted this winter at Rainton Meadows in County Durham. The bitterns were also spotted last year. This is exciting news for ornithologists, as the bitterns are highly endangered and on the RSPB's red list.
The birds are best spotted in Britain in the winter as they generally come here to escape colder conditions on the continent - they might be in for a shock this year though!
