| | Rare Parrots to be given new Enclosure
Thanks to a $1500 grant from the J. Kirby Simon Foreign Service Trust a new enclosure for the endangered Bahama Parrots will be built at the Ardastra Gardens Zoo and Conservation Centre. The Ardastra complex in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, already houses nearly 300 endangered species of birds, reptiles and mammals. The $1500 grant will cover about half of the cost required to build the new enclosure. The Bahama Parrot once lived in abundance in the Bahamas but is now a heavily endangered species. Hopefully, thanks to the J. Kirby Simon Foreign Service Trust – set up in the memory of an American Foreign Service Officer who died in 1995 – the parrot will be able to beat extinction and breed again in captivity.
